Good afternoon Greater Heights Stakeholders,

Attached are the Summary Notes, Attendance Report, and Handouts for the November 17 Greater Heights SN Council meeting. A brief summary is also provided below.
-------------------------------------------
November 17 Meeting Highlights
-------------------------------------------
Maverick Welsh on Services Offered to Hurricane Ike Survivors
As our guest speaker, we heard from Maverick Welsh, Assistant Director of Disaster Recovery Services at Neighborhood Centers, Inc., regarding services available to Hurricane Ike survivors via the Stay Connected Texas program. Their triage team will help determine eligibility regarding issues directly related to Ike such as home damage and mold as well as indirect matters such as loss of income and difficulty paying utility bills. Stay Connected Texas may be reached at 713-667-5853 or online at www.stayconnectedtexas.org.

Super Neighborhood Action Plan (SNAP)
We are developing our very first Super Neighborhood Action Plan (SNAP), which is, in simplistic terms, a bundled collection of infrastructure/park-related requests for the city. Each super neighborhood is limited to 25 SNAP requests. Last month, we chose to divide these among our stakeholder organizations and asked each Delegate to identify and prioritize three or four items for or near their respective geographical areas within the Greater Heights. This month, we collected the candidate requests and formed an ad-hoc committee to organize and clarify them. This committee will use the prioritization schedules to whittle the collection down to 25 requests. The resulting list will then be presented to the GHSNC for approval next month prior to submission to the city.

Next Meeting
The next general SN Council meeting will be Tuesday, December 15, at 6:30 PM at the Historic Houston Heights Fire Station & City Hall (Yale and 12th Streets). The general SNC meetings will continue to meet at the fire station location on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM.

Good evening Greater Heights Stakeholders,

Attached are the Summary Notes and Attendance Report for the February 16 Greater Heights SN Council meeting. A brief summary is also provided below.

February 16 Meeting Highlights
Presentation from the U.S. Census Bureau
Every year, the federal government allocates more than $400 billion to states and communities based, in part, on census data. Additionally, the census data will be used to create new or modify existing boundaries for state and local legislative and congressional districts. As the census only occurs every 10 years, it is paramount for Houstonians to be counted—more specifically not to be undercounted.

Draft I-10 Position Letter and Formal Environmental Hearing for White Oak Bayou/I-10 Detention Ponds
As previously reported, we recently learned that the Texas Department of Transportation had ramped up its plans for I-10 construction projects along the southern border of the Greater Heights. The Infrastructure Drainage, and Flooding Committee has been monitoring the progression of events and will prepare a formal position letter in time for the formal environmental hearing for the detention ponds.

District H Capital Improvement Projects (CIP)
Council Member Ed Gonzalez is hosting the 2010 District H CIP meeting on Wednesday, March 10, at 6:00 PM at Jefferson Davis High School (1101 Quitman St., Houston, TX 77009-7815). Delegates are to consult with their respective boards regarding existing and to identify potential new CIP projects in their area, if any. The Infrastructure, Drainage, and Flooding Committee will draft a letter of support to Council Member Ed Gonzalez to support newly identified CIP project requests as well as the existing CIP projects already on the books.

Next Meeting
The next general SN Council meeting will be Tuesday, March 16, at 6:30 PM at the Houston Heights Fire Station & City Hall (Yale and 12th Streets). We are partnering with the Washington Avenue/Memorial Park Super Neighborhood (SN 22) to host a presentation by the Houston-Galveston Area Council on their one-year planning study to identify and prioritize long-range regional transit needs and future transit opportunities for the region. Our general SNC meetings will continue to meet at the fire station location on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM.

Thanks,
Blake Masters
